Kanker: The state government has unseated the Kanker Collector Abhijeet Singh and recently posted Nilesh Mahadev Kshirsagar as the new Kanker collector. Abhijeet Singh’s sudden move has created ripples in the ministry as to why it was done in the first place, which is a topic of discussion among people in the ministry now. Some of the district collectors and SPs could have been transferred soon after the Lok Sabha election results, but the transfer of one collector at this particular juncture has been taken up as a major gossip in the bureaucracy.
This was disclosed by drawing information from the proposed Diary and record of the General Administration Department, which pointed to so much government discomfort in connection with the negligence of counting postal ballots during the Kanker Lok Sabha election. When the results of the various elections came in, the mere interest and the suspense over each seat among the BJP leaders were increasing. The Kanker Constituency election was very much neck and neck, whereby the lead changed from one candidate to the other at each tallying. Since the EVMs had been successfully counted, the gap between the two major parties was quite close, and it all hinged on the postal ballots.
Similarly, the postal ballots, which must have been counted sooner as per the directions given by the authorities higher up, were delayed in a big way. This caused much frustration and disappointment to the government and other top officials. As such, one morning, while the election code of conduct prevailed, there was a transfer order from the ministry, which posted Abhijeet Singh away from his post and sent him to the ministry.
This swift action by the state government shows how paramount it is for authorities to deal with counting votes as quickly as possible, especially when it is a toss-up between two candidates. The Kanker constituency, which remained a crucial and tough-contested seat, exemplified how the postal ballots could determine the last earnings of the elections.
