Bhopal: The India Meteorological Department has released a new update regarding the monsoon. According to the department, the southwest monsoon is expected to reach Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh by June 15. After this, there will be heavy rains in these states. The IMD said that conditions are favorable for the advancement of monsoon in the next 2-3 days in parts of the central Arabian Sea, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, coastal Andhra Pradesh and northwest Bay of Bengal. After this, there will be heavy rains in these states.
The IMD said that Assam and Meghalaya are likely to receive heavy (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.4 mm) during June 02-04, 2024. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during June 3 to 6.
The southwest monsoon knocked on Kerala and the Northeast region before time on Thursday, May 31. Due to this, there is heavy rain in Kerala and the northeastern states. Due to heavy rains, many states of the Northeast are facing the disaster of landslides. This is the fifth time that the southwest monsoon has knocked on the Northeast region before the scheduled time. Earlier, this had happened on four occasions – in 2017, 1997, 1995 and 1991.
At the same time, the Meteorological Department said that heatwave conditions are likely to continue in northwest, central and eastern India during the next three days. The IMD said that heat wave conditions are likely to occur in different parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Odisha on Monday (June 3). The Meteorological Department said that heat wave conditions are likely to occur in some parts of Jharkhand on Thursday (June 06, 2024).
