New Delhi: India Meteorological Department (IMD) launched Meghdoot, a simple and easy to use mobile application that provides crop advisories to the farmers based on the weather information. It is a joint initiative of IID, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) and Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
Advisories are available in both English and local languages. An interested user has to download ‘Meghdoot’ application and sign in using their mobile number and preferred language.The app provides district-wise advisories on crop and livestock management issued by Agro Met Field Units (AMFU) every Tuesday and Friday based on the past and forecasted weather information. It will help the farmers to take weather-sensitive decisions like sowing of crops, pesticide and fertilizer application, irrigation scheduling and vaccination of animals.
“The Meghdoot app has been jointly launched by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology – IITM, Pune (IITM, Pune), and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The purpose of this app is to provide weather-based agricultural advisories to farmers, including crop and livestock, in local languages. The information on this app is updated twice a week i.e. Tuesday and Friday”, wrote IMD on X.

The weather department has issued an alert in 15 districts for the next three hours. There is a possibility of rain and thundershowers in Raipur, Balod, Balrampur, Bemetara, Dhamtari, Durg, Gariaband, Jashpur, Khairgarh, Chhuikhadan Gandai, Korba, Korea, Raigarh, Rajnandgaon, Surajpur, and Surguja.
Due to favorable conditions, the southwest monsoon has reached some more parts of Chhattisgarh. After knocking in the state before the scheduled time, the monsoon had stopped in Bastar. During the last 24 hours, light to moderate rain has been recorded in some areas of southern and central Chhattisgarh.
