Bilaspur: Suspended IAS officer Rano Sahu faces a major setback as the High Court rejects her bail application, requiring her to remain in jail. Following the January 7th hearing, Justice Narendra Kumar Vyas issued the order today. Sahu is held in connection to the coal scam, arrested by the ED on July 22, 2023.
The coal scam investigation initiated in 2022 led the Income Tax Department to conduct raids at Rano Sahu’s official residence and properties. Subsequently, the ED conducted searches at her residence in connection with the alleged coal levy case. The ED accused her of involvement in the coal scam during her tenure as the Korba Collector. After her arrest, the lower court had rejected her bail plea, prompting her to file a bail application in the High Court.
The hearing took place in a single bench headed by Justice Narendra Kumar Vyas after the January 7th proceedings. The court has now rejected her bail application, affirming her continued detention. The developments come amid ongoing investigations and legal proceedings in the high-profile coal scam case.
Rano Sahu’s arrest and subsequent legal battles have garnered attention due to the nature of the charges and her position as an IAS officer. The case has implications on the larger issue of corruption in bureaucratic and administrative structures.
It remains to be seen how the case unfolds further, with legal proceedings likely to continue in the coming days. The rejection of the bail plea adds another chapter to the ongoing saga surrounding Rano Sahu and the coal scam allegations.
