Balrampur: In the rural development block of Bardikala in the district of Wadrafnagar, a significant lapse in hospital management has come to light at the primary health center. The incident involves a pregnant woman, suffering from labor pains, who, upon reaching the health center with her family in the chilly weather, found the facility locked. Despite frantic attempts and numerous phone calls, the responsible staff failed to arrive promptly. Eventually, with the assistance of an accredited social health activist (ASHA) worker, the woman was compelled to undergo delivery in a makeshift shed within the hospital premises.

It was only in the morning, when the hospital administration woke up, that the patient was shifted to a bed. According to information provided, the pregnant woman, a resident of Bardikala village named Shiv Prasad Devangan’s daughter-in-law, was initially advised to return home by the doctor when her family brought her to the health center on Sunday evening, citing that it was not yet time for delivery. Subsequently, the family returned home.

However, at around 4:00 AM, the woman began experiencing severe labor pains, prompting her family to rush her to the health center. Unfortunately, they found the facility locked, causing distress to the family. Despite persistent efforts, the health center staff did not respond. Eventually, with the help of the ASHA worker, the delivery was conducted in an improvised shed on the hospital premises.

In the aftermath, when the hospital administration arrived at 8:00 AM, the patient was finally shifted to a proper bed. Shiv Prasad Devangan, the concerned family member, recounted that they had sought medical attention for the pregnant woman at the hospital the previous night, where the doctors had advised them to return home as the time for delivery had not arrived. However, when they returned home, labor began at 4:00 AM.

Dr. Shashank Gupta, the medical officer in charge of the development block, expressed that if such negligence had occurred, appropriate action would be taken against those responsible. Nevertheless, he emphasized that no written complaint had been received, and necessary action would follow upon the submission of a formal complaint.
