Raipur: Since early morning, a number of places in Chhattisgarh, including the capital Raipur, have had nonstop rains with strong winds. Although it is uncommon to rain heavily in the hot month of Jeth (the end of the summer), this rainfall has helped reduce the heat. Even so, it has caused flooding in the low-lying parts of the city. The sudden downpours have given the state a monsoon look long before the real rainy season starts.

Heavy rain has caused large parts of major roads in the capital to flood, resulting in slow traffic and trouble for drivers. It is particularly challenging for office goers to get to work because the streets are flooded and the traffic systems are disrupted. Like Raipur, districts such as Durg, Rajnandgaon, Bilaspur, and parts of Bastar are facing much higher than normal temperatures, which is affecting many places in the region.

Meteorologist BK Chindalore said the rain in the area is being caused by convective development, which is a kind of local weather pattern. He stated that up to now, the monsoon has reached just Narayanpur and Kondagaon and not any further.

As the temperature suddenly dropped, the Meteorological Department has given an alert for the next three hours for different areas, asking people to act cautiously. There is now an orange alert in Kondagaon, Kanker, Dhamtari, Balod, Rajnandgaon, Gariaband, Mahasamund, Raipur, Baloda Bazar, Janjgir-Champa, Raigarh, Bilaspur, Korba, Durg, Bemetara, and Mungeli. Lightning, thunder, rain, and strong winds of 30–40 km/h are possible in these regions. Other districts have a yellow alert because there may be light rain. People living here have been told to remain at home and travel only when necessary.
