Bhanupraptappur, CG: Head constable of DRG, Salik Markam who succumbed in the Naxal encounter on Wednesday was cremated with full honours on Thursday at his native place Chamela in Kanker district. As per the govt rules, the mortal remains of Markam were wrapped in the national flag and was honoured at the High School ground in Chamela.
Following this, his fellow jawans who served as the pallbearers carried the mortal remains for cremation as per Hindu tradition.
The funeral was attended by Deputy Speaker of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Manoj Singh Mandavi, District Panchayat President Hemant Dhruv, member of Bastar Development Authority Viresh Thakur, Nagar Panchayat President Sunil Babla Pahari, Collector Chandan Kumar, Superintendent of Police Shalabh Sinha, Additional Superintendent of Police Narayanpur Neeraj Chandrakar and other police officers.
Salik Markam, the head constable was killed on Wednesday, in a joint operation launched by the DRG and ITBP on Tuesday night along the Palli-Barsur axis on the Narayanpur- Dantewada interdistrict border.
