Gumla Naxal encounter: Police have launched a major operation against Naxalites in Jharkhand, the neighboring state of Chhattisgarh. Jharkhand Police, in a major operation in Gumla district, killed three Naxalites of Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP). These included two sub-zonal commanders carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh. AK-47 and other weapons have been recovered from the encounter site. After the killing of three Naxalites, Jharkhand IG Michaelraj S said that now we can say that JJMP (Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad) has been wiped out.
A major encounter took place on Wednesday morning in the dense forests of Kechki, Rogri Toli, in the Bishanpur police station area of Gumla district. Security forces killed three Naxalites in the encounter. Sujit Oraon, along with the rewarded Naxalites Lalu Lohar and Chhotu, were also killed.
The killed militants include two sub-zonal commanders, identified as Lalu Lohar and Chhotu Oraon. Both carried a bounty of ₹5 lakh each on their heads by the Jharkhand government. The third slain militant, identified as Sujit Oraon, was active as a cadre in the organization.
According to police, three weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, were recovered from the scene following the encounter. Confirming the encounter, Gumla Superintendent of Police Harish Bin Jama said he led the operation and that intensive searches are currently underway throughout the area to apprehend other potential militants or secure the area.
Jharkhand’s Inspector General of Operations, Michaelraj S., stated that militants from the banned militant organization Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) were planning a major crime. Following this, a joint team of Gumla police and Jharkhand Jaguars launched a search operation in the area. During the search operation, the militants suddenly opened fire on the police team. In retaliation, security forces took charge and killed three militants.
He said, “We recovered an AK-47, an SLR, and an INSAS rifle from the scene. The operation is ongoing. This is a special operation being conducted against JJMP cadres for the past two to three months. With this success, the entire JJMP organization has been wiped out.”
