Raipur: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a Prime Minister and recipient of Bharat Ratna, Governor Vishwabhushan Harichandan paid homage to him. The governor visited his residence. Offered tributes to Vajpayee’s portrait remembering him as a visionary leader. Harichandan highlighted Vajpayee’s qualities describing him as a statesman, renowned speaker, accomplished author, and a true people leader.

Governor Harichandan emphasized Vajpayee’s role in bolstering India’s position. Despite facing pressures and sanctions Vajpayee demonstrated leadership during the Pokhran nuclear tests that declared India as a nuclear-armed nation thereby greatly enhancing its global stature. The governor acknowledged Vajpayee’s contribution in transforming India into a global power.

During his tenure as minister, Vajpayee introduced transformative initiatives such as the Golden Quadrilateral project and the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana to strengthen the country’s basic infrastructure. He also implemented programs like the Annapurna Yojana that provided monthly food rations to elderly citizens who didn’t have pensions. Vajpayee’s governance reflected his commitment to uplifting every individual in society.

Governor Harichandan commended Vajpayee for his dedication towards agricultural development exemplified by initiatives, like the Annapurna Yojana, where eligible senior citizens received 10 kilograms of grain every month. The governor praised Vajpayee as one of India’s individuals.

The event saw the attendance of officials and employees from the Raj Bhavan, including Secretary Amrit Kumar Khalkho and Deputy Secretary Deepak Agrawal, who also paid their condolences to the Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
