On Thursday evening, a tragic accident happened on the Vaishap Bridge in Durg, and made an 18-year-old girl to die, and her mother injured. This accident occurred after the e-rickshaw on which the two were riding when it overturned on the bridge adjacent to the battalion route in the direction of the Smriti Nagar police station area.

It is reported that the dead is a Neha Patnaik who lived in Durg. The accident took place between Neha, who was with her mother, Usha Patnaik (45), on her way back to the home at Malviya Nagar Chowk to Model Town. In the process, the e-rickshaw lost balance and went over on the Vaishap Bridge. Neha got crushed by the vehicle and she had severe injuries on her head. Although bystanders and police tried to save her immediately, she died because of her injuries.

The accident was reported by eyewitnesses who reported the same to the police and the highway patrol unit. The police of the Smriti Nagar and Supela police stations rushed to the scene. But by the time they got there, the e-rickshaw driver had speeded off with his car leaving him behind injured mother and daughter.

Bysteppers assisted in taking both victims to the Chandulal Chandrakar Memorial Hospital. The doctors at the hospital stated that Neha was dead by the time she got to the hospital whereas she was being treated by doctors about her wounds.

The local citizens are still shocked by the unfortunate accident. A search has been initiated by the police to track the run away driver. Limited research indicates that the e-rickshaw could have lost control because of negligence and rash driving, which caused the vehicle to fall.

Law enforcers have indicated that legal measures against the driver will be pursued once he or she is arrested. The accident has brought issues of safety level and regulation of e-rickshaws in the city where such accidents are becoming common.
