Ganeshotsav: A Celebration of Joy and Prosperity
Ganeshotsav, a ten-day Hindu festival, is celebrated with great fervor across India, especially in Maharashtra. Dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed god of wisdom, prosperity, and new beginnings, this festival is a time for joy, devotion, and community bonding.
The festival begins on the fourth day of the Hindu lunar month of Bhadrapad. Devotees install clay idols of Ganesha in their homes or community pandals. These idols are adorned with colorful decorations and garlands. Daily prayers, hymns, and aarti are performed to seek Lord Ganesha’s blessings.
The highlight of Ganeshotsav is the immersion of the idols on the tenth day, known as Anant Chaturdashi. This grand procession, accompanied by music, dance, and colorful floats, culminates in the immersion of the idols in water bodies like rivers or oceans. This symbolizes the end of Ganesha’s earthly visit and his return to his heavenly abode.
