Mahasamund: Lately, there have been increased complaints about poor quality milk and dairy products during Diwali, and now the Food and Drug Administration Department in Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh has at last taken action.
The flying squad at the state level recently laid a siege on the Tumgaon-based factory of Vama Dairy, which operates under the brand name “Gaya” and deals in milk and products related to it. In this operation, six SFDA officials and Mahasamund district officials seized paneer and peda samples from the factory.
These samples have now been passed on to a laboratory for further tests. The department’s initiative will target December, when people prepare to celebrate holidays and, therefore, will buy more sweets and dairy products and when cases of adulteration are most likely to be reported.
One of the reasons for this action was the increasing pressure from small retailers, who have demanded sample collection from production facilities with the hope of solving the problem of adulteration at the source, as proposed by the Assistant Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration Department, Nitesh Mishra.
Based on such apprehensions, the department made a push toward larger companies, such as Vama Dairy, to test product quality at the point of production. He said the flying squad operated at the state level will ensure food quality during the festival period, as indexed by Mishra.
This raid exemplifies the government’s actions to protect consumers during Diwali, as sweets and dairy products are traditional parts of the festival. The authority that the Food and Drug Administration tries to minimize is associated with adulterated products, which is why it is essential to regulate the quality of products at the production stage.
Such measures assuage public confidence that the administration wants to guarantee that the products that consumers obtain during the festival season are safe, not contaminated, and of superior quality.
