JHARSUGUDA: The engine of a special MEMU train caught fire while it halted at Brajrajnagar station on Tuesday night. The train was bound for Jharsuguda from Ghondia. One is said to have been injured in the accident, however no loss of loss but materialistic damage was reported.
Sources said the incident took place at around 8.30 pm after which the passengers near the engine and other people on the platform alerted the railway and RPF staff. The first sparks were seen in the driver’s cabin who immediately jumped from the window while the passengers all panicked. The emergency response team was engaged immediately to douse the fire while the passengers were comforted. The train was later moved from its location by attaching another engine to the compartment.
A preliminary investigation revealed a short circuit as the cause of the fire. The Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Saket Ranjan has called for a probe into the accident.
