Chhattisgarh: Chhattisgarh police has filed an FIR against sage Kalicharan Maharaj on the charge of promoting enmity between classes after he used derogatory words against the father of the nation and hailed his assassin Nathuram Godse.

According to a statement issued by a police officer, the FIR was registered based on a complaint filed by Congress leader Kalicharan on Sunday night at Tikrapara Police station under Indian Penal Code Section 505 (2) (statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes) and 294 (obscene acts).

Kalicharan in a public gathering, issued statements where he claimed people select staunch Hindu leaders to lead the government in a bid to protect the religion. Further, he prompted ‘abusive’ references to Mahatma Gandhi during a speech at Dharma Sansad organized by a group in Chattisgarh capital on Sunday.

These derogatory remarks came days after a religious assembly in Haridwar gained mileage over provocative and communal speeches made by Hindu religious leaders against Muslim minorities during the event.
