Kawardha: Chhattisgarh police have registered a case against Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) national vice-president Raman Singh’s son Abhishek and party MP Santosh Pandey today for allegedly disturbing the peace after riots broke out in Kawardha town of Kabirdham district last Sunday. BJP has called it a sign of the state government’s ‘dictatorial attitude’.
Police had said that no permission was given by the administration for the rally which was taken out two days after a clash broke out between the Hindu and Muslim communities over the removal of religious flags from a thoroughfare in the town.
So far 66 people have been arrested, police said. The participants at the rally raised slogans of “Jai Shri Ram, attacked homes and vehicles owned by Muslims, and pelted the police with stones.” More than a dozen civilians and police personnel were injured in the violence.
After this news surfaced on Friday, Dr. Raman Singh’s reaction also came to the fore. Talking to the media in Raipur, Dr. Raman said in a tone of warning – “a group is being harassed, the situation in village-village will be explosive. Today we want to find a solution peacefully”. Without naming anyone, he further explained how the administration is being used politically, they are making the situation worse.
Earlier on Tuesday, October 5th, violence broke out at Kawardha, the headquarters of Kabirdham district, during a 3000-people procession taken out by right-wing Hindu outfits defying a curfew.
