Chhattisgarh: Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait on addressing the media at Rajim Mandi Complex on Tuesday blatantly threatened media houses to either support the protesting farmers or become their next target. “The next target will be media houses, if you want to be saved then join us, else you’ll also suffer,” Tikait said after arriving in Chhattisgarh.
“Mainly, you should focus on the Union government sitting in Delhi, who sold half the country after making the laws,” the farmer’s leader said. “They sold 182 mandiyas in Madhya Pradesh. Pay attention to them. Chhattisgarh won’t remain untouched as well,” Tikait added.
Tikait who was attending a Kisan Mahapanchayat in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, stated that they will raise the issues of the farmers in the state. “The biggest problem is of MSP in the country. We’ll talk about how vegetable farmers of state can be benefitted more and what policies need to be made for them,” Tikait quoted.
This comes a day after the protesting farmers, under the Samkyukt Kisan Morcha, observed a 10-hour nationwide strike to mark the first anniversary of their agitation against the Centre’s three contentious farm laws. Tikait had stated that the Bharat Bandh received an overwhelming response from across the country. However, the major impact of the strike was limited to Punjab and Haryana where normal life was hit and traffic came to a standstill with protesters blocking highways and railway tracks.
