Raipur: In the state assembly, former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel questioned the government on its Naxal policy, expressing concern over the lack of progress within the first two months. Baghel criticized the government for inconsistent statements on Naxal issues, ranging from video conferencing discussions to promises of action. He emphasized the need for clarity and highlighted the government’s silence on progress made in the last two months. Baghel recalled the challenges faced during his tenure, citing the absence of control over Naxal activities in Bastar.
During his five-year term, Baghel claimed that his government formulated a comprehensive policy and provided security to the police, fostering a change in public perception. He mentioned the successful implementation of development initiatives, such as increased rates for tendu leaves and millet, debt waivers, and strategic purchases of rice at INR 2500 per quintal. These measures, along with the return of land to farmers, contributed to improved economic conditions. Baghel credited his government for building trust by enhancing facilities and expanding educational services, resulting in a positive environment and reduced conflict between the police and the public.
Highlighting the transformation in Bastar, Bhupesh Baghel noted that his government successfully created an atmosphere of trust. During his tenure, the state saw significant changes, with 600 villages becoming Naxal-free. Responding to the current government’s promise to focus on development within a 5 km radius of camps, Baghel asserted that his administration had already initiated similar efforts.
He cited the initiation of camps to provide basic amenities like ration cards, job cards, and Aadhar cards, which led to the release of many Adivasi individuals who had been imprisoned for years. Baghel concluded by expressing concern over recent attacks on camps, emphasizing the need for stability and continuity in anti-Naxal efforts.
