Raipur: Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has raised serious questions over the recent raids by CBI linked to the Mahadev betting app and questioned the logic behind the incriminatory accusations of protecting the accused when his own government had gone to great lengths on the Mahadev app. “If we started a crackdown, how will we be accused of hiding them? What kind of investigation is this?” he asked.
Before his government’s actions, Baghel noted that the Mahadev app was largely unknown in India. In his term as the Chief Minister, over 200 persons were arrested, and 2,000 bank accounts were frozen, on the basis of which the Congress-led government had filed 74 FIRs, during which Google removed the app from the Play Store after it received a formal letter from his government.
Baghel also took a dig at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and accused it of spreading false news that two people arrested in Dubai were Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal. “However, they were later seen performing religious rituals there. Hence, what type of investigation is this?”
Baghel also blamed the CBI for procedural lapses under which the raid was carried out. He said CBI officials both at his government residence in Raipur as well as in his Bhilai residence, did not tell him. He described what he deemed was a complete violation of protocol by their unauthorized entry into his official residence, an address in his absence. The CBI has also come under fire from him, who asked whether the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is orchestrating a political conspiracy against him through it.
These statements of Baghel have created a new political controversy on whether these central agencies are credible and their intentions are good in the ongoing investigation of Mahadev’s betting app.
