Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government has moved the Supreme Court by filing caveats against GP Singh, an IPS officer suspended earlier this week in a disproportionate assets case and later booked for sedition.
In another conversation on Sunday, Former CBI Judge Prabhakar Gwal on Sunday, demanded a fresh probe into the 2012 suicide case of Bilaspur Superintendent of Police Rahul Sharma, alleging a link between that death and the now suspended IPS officer Gurjinder Pal Singh.
According to Gwal, IPS officer GP Singh hid critical evidence during the probe into the suicide by Sharma, a 2002 Indian Police Service (IPS) officer.
Addressing a media briefing, Gwal demanded a judicial committee investigation and urged the filing of fresh petitions by social workers and advocates in the Chhattisgarh High Court. He alleged that Sharma committed suicide due to pressure from Singh and the coal mafia.
Gwal said: “I was involved in the suicide investigation where the police did not record the statements of the people present on the spot at the time of the incident. Sharma’s laptop and pen drive were missing.”
In November 2020, the Chhattisgarh government set up a five-member committee to probe Sharma’s suicide. Sharma in his suicide note blamed his senior officer and a High Court Judge for his suicide.
IPS Officer Gurjinder Pal Singh was suspended on July 5th after the Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Economic Offences Wing raided locations linked to him and registered a case for holding assets disproportionate to his income. Based on the documents recovered from the raid, a sedition case is registered against Singh for allegedly promoting enmity and hatching a conspiracy against the established government and public representatives
