Sukma: Soldiers have intensified anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district. Two days later, on Tuesday, another encounter broke out between Naxalites and soldiers. The encounter has been ongoing since morning in the forests of the Errabor police station area. There is intermittent firing from both sides.
According to reports, security forces launched a search operation after receiving information about the presence of Maoists. Intermittent exchanges of fire have been taking place since this morning.
It should be noted that earlier, in the dense Tumalpad forest on the Bhejji-Chintagufa border, DRG personnel had killed Naxalites Madvi Deva, Podium Gangi, and Sodi Gangi. All were carrying a bounty of ₹5 lakh each. 303 rifles, BGL launchers, and other weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the encounter site.
Earlier on 16 November, a fierce fight erupted between the security forces and the Naxalites in the hilly forest land between Bhejji and Chintagufa in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. Reports also record that three Naxalites were killed during the current exchange of fire but this has yet to be confirmed. The events are still strained with intervals of gunshots on both sides.
Based on the readily available information, the District Reserve Guard (DRG) had initiated a search operation after receiving intelligence information that indicated that there were Naxalites in the area. The thick wooded area of Sukma where Naxal traffic was common encouraged the troops to launch a combing operation early in the morning. Nevertheless, immediately the DRG personnel approached the suspected zone, Naxalites fired trying to ambush the team.
