Durg: In JD Steel Plant located in the industrial area of Rasamda, Durg district, a major accident occurred, resulting in the tragic death of a worker who was on duty as a furnace operator. The incident caused a commotion in the plant, particularly in the Anjora Chowki area. It was reported that late at night, following a blast in the furnace, the worker fell into the furnace, leading to his fatal burning. The deceased worker has been identified as Jitendra Kumar Bhuriya, aged 24, who had come from Jharkhand to work as a contractual employee at JD Steel Plant in Rasamda.
The primary task at this plant involves the fabrication of heavy steel structures, including angles and plates. Workers are often tasked with the removal of hot waste material from the furnace using large spoons, a job known as “bari man.” Following the worker’s tragic death, several allegations regarding safety lapses were raised against the management by the employees. In response, the workers staged a protest, demanding proper compensation for the deceased worker’s family.
In addition to seeking justice for their colleague, the workers insisted on adequate compensation for the deceased worker’s family. They gathered outside the plant’s gates, demanding attention to their grievances. After negotiations with the Anjora Chowki police, the workers dispersed around midnight, agreeing to return to work after assurances of a thorough investigation into the incident.
Currently, the Anjora Chowki police are investigating the matter to determine the circumstances leading to the worker’s tragic demise. The incident underscores the importance of stringent safety measures in industrial workplaces to prevent such accidents and protect workers’ lives. It also highlights the need for prompt and adequate compensation for the families of workers who lose their lives in such unfortunate incidents.
