Raipur: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has intensified its investigation into the Mahadev Application (MA) betting case, questioning more than a dozen people in late August. The ED is probing the alleged illegalities committed by the operators of the MA app, which is said to have facilitated online betting on cricket matches.
Till now Chhattisgarh Police has made 449 arrests and cases against 72 have been registered.
The ED’s investigation has revealed that the MA app was being operated by a group of people based in Chhattisgarh. The group is alleged to have collected crores of rupees from users of the app through illegal betting. The ED is also probing the role of some government officials in the case.
The ED’s investigation is a major crackdown on illegal betting in India. The agency has also issued a lookout notice against the operators of the MA app, preventing them from leaving the country. The ED is expected to file a charge sheet in the case soon.
The MA betting case is the latest in a series of cases involving illegal betting in India. In recent years, the ED has investigated several cases involving illegal betting on cricket matches, including the IPL betting case and the Khelwa app betting case. The ED’s crackdown on illegal betting is a sign of the government’s commitment to curbing this illegal activity.
The MA betting case has also raised concerns about the security of online transactions. The MA app was able to collect crores of rupees from users without any safeguards in place. This raises questions about the security of other online betting apps and the need for stricter regulations in this sector.
The ED’s investigation into the MA betting case is ongoing. It remains to be seen whether the agency will be able to bring the perpetrators to justice and deter others from engaging in illegal betting. However, the case is a major step in the fight against illegal betting in India.
