For the first time, the Chhattisgarh government declared a dry day in Krishna Janmashtami. All liquor shops and meat shops will remain closed on Monday, Aug 30 as declared by the government. The decision has been taken keeping in mind the sentiments of the devotees who perform prayers during the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami.

The preparations for the festival have started majorly across the state. There are special tableaux being prepared in several temples to mark the festival. The senior officials of the state say that previously such decisions were only taken during national holidays or certain special occasions. But it is the first time that a dry day in Krishna Janmashtami will be observed across the state. And for a change, in addition to liquor, meat shops will also remain closed on Monday.

The enthusiasm amongst the people of Chhattisgarh is high to celebrate the festival this year because last year it was affected due to corona. The famous Dahi-Handi burst competition also did not take place due to lockdown restrictions across the state. The 200 years old tradition of breaking the Dahi-Handi also was broken in Jai Utsav Math in view of the corona. So, the government wants to let people enjoy the festivities this year with utmost devotion.
