The official government email ID of the court of Rajnandgaon district received a bomb threat on Wednesday morning, causing panic and a large-scale security alarm. Shortly after the threat was received, anarchy briefly reigned in the court with authorities rushing to evaluate the situation.
Heeding the caution, the police ran on the spot and vacated the whole court complex on high alert. Admission of lawyers, court officials, litigants, and the general population were absolutely limited and the proceedings were halted. The abrupt evacuation led to a feeling of panic inside and outside the court grounds.
The site was heavily deployed with police officers on the ground, and senior officers being personally in charge of the operation. Bomb disposal teams and other specialised security agencies were then summoned to carry out a thorough search of the whole complex of the court. Courtrooms, offices, corridors, and other areas around the premises were checked carefully to eliminate any threat.
The authorities claimed that all normal safety measures were immediately put in place to avoid any mishap. During the search operation, the administration isolated the area and made sure that no unauthorised individual came into the premises. The police also had to liaise with the intelligence and cyber teams to track down the origin of the threatening email.
The police affirmed that they are investigating to find out who sent the email and whether the threat is valid or not. The source of the email, the technical information and the probable motive are under scrutiny. Although even no suspicious object was located when they reported it, security agencies were on the high alert.
According to the administration, the prioritization of safety is given to the general population and citizens should not panics. Additional measures will also be considered depending on the result of investigation and the court operation will also resume only when the premises will be declared to be safe altogether.
