NARAYANPUR: The Narayanpur district administration on Monday administered an oath to the village leaders and influential people in an attempt to maintain peace and harmony in the violence-hit district.
“Influential people and village leaders of 68 villages of the district, including Sarpanch, priests, Gaita were called at an auditorium of the district on Monday and a peace talk meeting was organized. We urged everyone to maintain peace and harmony in their villages during the meeting,” said Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Sadanand Kumar.
Kumar added that talks for the development and maintenance of peace were held. Around 300 police personnel have been deployed in the district to maintain law and order.
According to the information given by Narayanpur Collector Ajit Vasant- the district administration is set to organize a solution and a dialogue camp in the gram panchayats to regain the trust of the villagers. “We are trying to pacify the atmosphere in their villages in the next two to three days and then they will be sent to their respective villages, said Collector.
So far 11 have been detained in connection with the Narayanpur church vandalism that took place on January 3rd. A protests broke out in Narayanpur earlier this week after tribals alleged rampant conversions in the tribal dominated areas. The protesters also attacked Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Sadanand Kumar and five police personnel when they were trying to disperse the crowd.
