Korba: The district police today claimed to have cracked a diesel theft syndicate that was active at SECL’s Gevra mine. During the operation, 11 people suspected to have been involved in the theft were arrested. This scenario was executed after the Mine’s security inspector filed a complaint. The police moving swiftly, were able to arrest the culprits and recovered a total of 2,659 litres of diesel from their custody, which is worth ₹2,48,456.
The case was detected when Nandlal Rai the Security Inspector of Gevra mine, lodged a written complaint with the Deepka police. He also cited from his report that he received information from an informant of some notorious people who have been stealing diesel and taking it in Bolero vehicles. Taking the cue, two security personnel, Rakesh Kumar Singh and Sudhir Kumar, were mobilized to the crime scene. Upon their arrival, they saw split diesel close to a dozer and a dumper, suggesting theft had happened.
Bearing in mind that the Gevra mine has spent crores of rupees on security and has employed both SECL security and private company security crews, diesel thefts persevere. There are some notorious and notorious characters like diesel thieves and there is doubt on the efficiency of current measures.
The amount of diesel involved in the theft running into lakhs tells volumes about the magnitude and the sophistication of the operation. The police have embarked on a detail investigation to unravel with other people are involved and to avoid such acts in the future. This raid by the Deepka police has set a good example in order to control the situation the above measures are still not enough to eradicate the continuing menace from diesel thieves.
