Raipur: To protect stray cattle and minimize the number of road mishaps that occur due to cattle trespassing on roads, the Chhattisgarh state’s government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, has decided to set up a cow shelter. This decision will ensure adequate abattoirs to house free-grazing cattle that move about in the streets and traffic areas and those that often starve and get ill due to lack of nourishment and preying on each other. The announcement was received rather well, and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma came personally to thank the Chief Minister of the state and congratulate him.

Vijay Sharma, the Deputy Chief Minister, thanked Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai for the kind gesture and stressed making it efficient. ”It gives me a great pleasure to convey that the Vishnu Dev Sai government is working on a great social cause in the interest of stray animals by constructing a GC Cattle Sanctuary soon. Without any doubt, this will arrest the problem of stray animals roaming in search of food which is often not available. They will now be getting their regular meals. This will also check accidents which frequently occur on roads due to these animals.”, commented Sharma.

The setting up of the cow sanctuary shall, therefore, help solve several problems at the same time. Today loose cows are seen roaming the streets of Chhattisgarh, which actually causes traffic jams and fork accidents. These animals are not given any food or medical attention and barely fend for themselves. They end up being sickly skinny. This means that this cow sanctuary will act as a special one where such cattle will be well-fed, well treated as well as well sheltered.

This move is a clear indication on the part of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai and his administration supporting animal causes and eradicating unlawful acts that endanger the lives of animals and people. This is because positioning a sanctuary to confine stray cattle will reduce the misfortunes that come with stray cattle grazing on roads that have heavily congested traffic flows.
