The winter session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly was today inaugurated at the new Assembly building in the newly developed Naya Raipur, and this was a historic day. Nevertheless, political confrontation was witnessed on the opening day of the session when the Opposition Congress resolved not to attend the session.
Congress responded violently to the boycott, with the deputy chief Minister, Vijay Sharma, questioning the move by saying that it was not a good move that the Opposition to opt out of conversations on the Vision Document. He added that the Vision Document was not a BJP agenda, but it was a public vision that was ready after a wide consultation with the people. What type of politics is this, in case the Congress decides not to engage in such discussions? Sharma asked.
In an interview with the media prior to the session, the Deputy CM further indicated that the Congress is not really interested in seeing Chhattisgarh develop or have a roadmap of development. He stated that the Opposition can freely air its opinions, but by not participating in important matters, it is isolating itself from the people of the state.
During the Congress, Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhodo rally, Vijay Sharma retaliated by saying that all the people were aware of who the actual vote thief is. He accused Sonia Gandhi of having had her name included in the list of voters once when she was not an Indian citizen, and he termed this as unacceptable. In addition, he noted that the BJP also feels that only Indian citizens should be allowed to vote, as the people of Bihar have already made it very clear on the same.
Meanwhile, the current session is being referred to as historic by the fact that the Assembly has moved its base to its new building in Naya Raipur for the first time. On December 14, 2000, the first Assembly sitting took place in Chhattisgarh.
