Dongargarh: On the occasion of the second death anniversary of Acharya Shri 108 Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj, the great Jain saint, the Chandragiri Tirtha in Dongargarh is once again becoming a center of national faith and discussion. Along with the outpouring of reverence across the country, the demand for the Bharat Ratna for Acharya Shri is also growing.
Acharya Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj attained Samadhi on February 18, 2024, at Chandragiri Tirtha through Sallekhana, the highest spiritual practice in the Jain tradition. His life was steeped in austerity, sacrifice, restraint, and moral values. He was not only a saint of the Jain community but also a spiritual figure whose ideology influenced every section of society.
On the occasion of the second death anniversary, devotional worship, memorial ceremonies, and cultural programs are being organized throughout the day at Chandragiri Tirtha. In this context, the Jain community and various social organizations are demanding that Acharya Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj be awarded the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian honor.
To give this important event national recognition, Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and several prominent leaders will be visiting Dongargarh on January 27th. They will visit the Chandragiri Shrine, visit the Samadhi site, and participate in the memorial festival. Their visit is considered both spiritual and culturally significant. Locals and community representatives say that the Union Minister’s presence has strengthened the prospects for Chandragiri Shrine and Dongargarh to gain national recognition. Furthermore, the demand for the Bharat Ratna is expected to receive a formal and effective platform.
Overall, this voice of reverence rising from the Samadhi of Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj on his second death anniversary now seems to be reaching the national level, where the demand to link the penance, sacrifice and life values of a saint with the highest honour of the country is continuously getting stronger.
