Raipur: On the occasion of World Cycle Day, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports organized a cycling event in Raipur today. Under the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav- similar events were also organized in Durg, Civic Centre Bhilai, Durg, Bilaspur and Ratanpur.

The event was held to motivate people to adopt cycling in their daily lives as physical activity. During the event around 1.29 lakh, young cyclists across the country covered a distance of more than 9.62 lakh km in a single day. In Raipur alone, more than 152 cyclists had taken part. Students and professors from ITM University Raipur also participated in the rally by cycling to Marine drive from Raipur Municipal Corportation. Vinay Bhaskar, Chief Security officer of DSP and former CM were chief guests of the event.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Anurag Thakur took to the streets of New Delhi and participated in the nationwide “Fit India Freedom Rider Cycle rally”, Anurag Thakur who is extremely popular among the youth of the country quoted as “Cycling can play the biggest role in the Fit India campaign. On World Bicycle Day, we are giving a clear message that everyone should make cycling a part of their daily life. Cycling will keep you healthy and help build a clean India”.
