After recent instances of illicit cultivation of opium in the district, the district administration has adopted a tough approach and resorted to a massive administrative overhaul of the Revenue Department. The order transferring 58 patwaris at the same time by the District Collector Rajendra Kumar Katara is one of the biggest transfers of personnel in recent days. The relocation is among attempts to increase administrative control and to take care of the issues that have been raised when the illegal farming activities were exposed.
Under the official order, patwaris of some of the tehsils of Rajpur, Ramanujganj, Kusmi, Wadrafnagar, Shankargarh, Raghunathnagar, and Balrampur have been relocated to their new posts. Most of these officials were even reported to have been serving in the same areas over a number of years. By transferring them, the administration believes that it will lead to efficiency in the revenue system, transparency in the administrative operations, and eradicate the laxity that may arise in cases where the officials are often stationed in one place.
It is said that the recent revelation of the illegal opium farm in different regions of the district had cast a big doubt on the efficiency of the local administrative supervision. The district administration responded by making the changes to the revenue machinery stricter and adopting a decisive approach.
In the transfer order, it is well indicated that all patwaris affected will be relieved their present posts forthwith effective 13 March 2026. They have been instructed that they report to their new posting points and take over by 16 March 2026 at the latest.
The officials too have threatened that incase of non compliance with the order or the inability to join the new posting can lead to action by the department. This is considered as a great move by the administrative circles in enhancing governance and curbing laxity in the revenue system with the signals that more stringent measures may be imposed in the near future.
