Raipur: After being tracked down and arrested by a team of officers in New Delhi, suspended IPS officer GP Singh on Wednesday was presented before a sessions court in Raipur. The court remanded him in three days of police custody for questioning in connection with the cases registered against him by the EOW and ACB under the prevention of Corruption Act.
After his appeal for a stay order on investigation and arrest warrants against him were rejected by the High Court and later Supreme Court, Singh went into hiding in Gurgaon, police sources said.
Leena Agarwal judge of the special court remanded the custody of the accused 1994 Batch IPS officer. ACB/EOW counsel Mithilesh Verma also sought seven-day custody claiming that the accused officer did not cooperate in the investigation last year. However, after hearing the arguments of defence counsel Kamesh Pandey granted two-day custody to the ACB.
Speaking for his innocence, the suspended officer told the media, ““These are not my properties. I have nothing to do with this. The allegations against me are fabricated. If you see the FIR, you will come to know that some of the properties mentioned belonged to me”.
The ACB and EOW had carried out searches at 15 locations linked to Singh from July 1 to 3, in which several irregularities and disproportionate assets were found. An FIR was filed at Raipur’s Kotwali police station on the intervening night of July 9th and 10th under IPC section 124A for sedition and 153 A for promoting enmity. However, the police didn’t make a copy of the FIR public on its citizen portal, saying that it’s a sensitive case.
