Coronavirus: Sero survey for herd immunity in Chhattisgarh commences from today

Raipur: With an aim to map and understand the spread of the novel coronavirus, Sero-survey for herd immunity launched in Chhattisgarh from today. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) will conduct this survey in 10 districts of the state including Raipur for two days.

Along with ICMR, the health department team will also actively participate in the survey. Herd immunity will be detected in the state through random sampling.

According to the information, after the Center, the state government will also conduct herd immunity survey.

Samples will be taken from Raipur, Bilaspur, Jashpur, Balrampur, Korba, Durg, Rajnandgaon, Mungeli, Balodabazar and Janjgir Champa districts for herd immunity.

A sample of people’s blood will be taken in Raipur and Tilda, two blocks of Raipur district. Samples will be taken from 16 September to 18 September. However, 500 samples will be taken from each district.

Notably, a serological survey, better known as sero survey, is conducted to diagnose infections autoimmune illnesses. It can also be conducted to check if a person has developed immunity to certain diseases.

Sero-surveys use tests that examine the liquid part of blood, or ‘serum’, not nose, throat and mouth fluid. And these tests detect an immune response to the virus material, not SARS-CoV-2 virus material itself.
