New Delhi: The spread of novel coronavirus seems unstoppable in the nation as India hits its another one day spike with over 90,000 new cases registered in the last 24 hours. This comes after a decline in cases on the previous day.
On Wednesday Morning Bulletin, India recorded 90,123 cases, crossed the gruesome milestone of 50 lakh cases.
The total number of coronavirus infections in India rose to 50,20,359 including 9,95,993 active cases and nearly 40 lakh recovered from the virus.
India recorded 1290 deaths in a single day – highest ever. With this, the death toll increased to 80,776. More than 37 per cent of cumulative deaths reported so far in the country are from Maharashtra.
Maharashtra remains the worst affected state by the pandemic with a tally of 10.7 lakh cases as it continued to report more than 17,000 cases a day. The state is followed by Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh.
The health ministry in its latest briefing on Tuesday said that there are 14 states & UTs in India where the total number of active cases are less than 5000,taking country’s average positivity rate to 8.4 per cent.
Close to half (48.8 per cent) of the active cases are concentrated in three states — Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Kerala and Telangana contribute close to a quarter (24.4 per cent) of the active cases, the ministry said.
According to ICMR data, 5,94,29,115 samples tested up to 15th September for Covid-19. Of these, 11,16,842 samples tested yesterday.
Globally, the number of people infected is inching closer to the 30 million mark with over 29.27 million current infections. US continues to lead the world with over 6.5 million cases and over 1.94 lakh deaths. India, second after the US, crosses 5 Million mark.
