Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh: A police constable was shot dead in Chhattisgarh’s Jagdalpur area in the early hours of Thursday. He had come to attend a social event. It is not yet known who shot the constable. However, there is a possibility of Naxalites being involved in this. The matter is of the Mardum police station area.
According to the information, Tunder resident Newru Benzam (32) was posted at the Rekha Ghati ESF camp in the Bastar district. He had come to Marikodar village on November 9 along with his family members to attend a social event. He was shot at around 4.30 am on Thursday at the venue behind an ashram located in the village.
The killers fled from there after the incident. When people reached the spot after hearing gunshots, the constable’s body was lying. The local people informed the police soon after and the soldiers left the spot. This area is considered a stronghold of Naxalites. In such a situation, there is a possibility of a Naxal incident.
Jagdalpur ASP Hemsagar Sidar said that the incident has been executed due to mutual enmity or it may be a Naxal incident. An investigation is being done from both these angles. The incident took place about 10 km from the police station and just 6 km from the Rekha Ghati camp. It is being told that the constable was already on the target of Naxalites. Many such Naxal attacks keep happening in the naxal-prone zones of Chhattisgarh. The government is taking action to curb such attacks in the future.
