Raipur: The Congress party is also likely to review its recent losses both in the assembly and subsequent Lok Sabha polls in Chhattisgarh. To oversee this essential task, the party has constituted a committee with former union minister and senior congress leader Veerappa Moily as convenor. This committee is planning to visit Chhattisgarh on June 29, thus beginning an extensive assessment tour, which will take about a week, from June 29 to July 4.
Veerappa Moily, who has vast exposure and proven leadership skills along with a strong tactician, will be supported by another member of the committee, Harish Chaudhary. Their major goal will be to initiate close conversations with all leaders across the state’s five divisions. Such discussions are aimed at soliciting opinions, seeking to know the reasons as to why electoral mishaps occurred, and finding ways to achieve victory in the future.
The above schedule of committee entails having individual one-on-one meetings with the division heads in order to receive different and diversity of feedback. Such interaction at the grassroots level is important to know both the positive aspects that have helped the party to secure the election and the negative factors that adversely affected the party. This is because, through the leaders, the committee hoped to get an insight into the matters that the electorate found important and those that were favorites.
During these deliberations, the committee shall be able to discuss why the party has been registering losses, period. This has to do with the efficiency of campaign goals and tactics, organizational initiatives to mobilize voter support, and identification of the party’s platforms that would be popular with the electorate. They will also be called upon to study internal party functions, organization, and outcomes of candidacy. Thus, the interests of the committee, which take a rather broad perspective, presuppose pinpointing the problems that require a change in order to improve the party’s performance in future elections.
