RAIPUR: Laying out a clear road map for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections the three-day plenary session of the Congress party in Chhatisgarh will host discussions to take on BJP. Under the leadership of Party president MallikArjun Kahrge, the plenary session being held for the first time in Raipur will witness around 15,000 delegates in what is being touted as the second largest event by the grand old party after the success of Bharat Jodo Yatra.
On the first day of the three-day session, the Steering Committee, which is playing the role of the Working Committee (the previous one was dissolved until a new CWC is formed), will also decide on whether there will be elections to the top decision-making body or not.
According to sources, a younger lot of the party wants elections to CWC. On the contrary elders in the grand old party want nomination instead to avoid dissidence within and enable cohesion in the top body as the party heads into a tough election cycle ahead.
The plenary session plays a major role in the upcoming polls instated like Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh where the Congress rule and MP and Karnataka where the party is the principal opposition. The party will give direction to the rank and file to prepare for the state poll cycles. As part of poll preparations, the party would also have to work out solutions to end factionalism in the state units, including those in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana.
The CWC has 25 members including 12 elected and 11 nominated, besides the president and the LoP in the parliament.
