RAIPUR: Members of the Congress party staged a protest demanding the resignation of BJP leader Narayan Chandel in the rape case registered against his son Palash Chandel. Members burnt the effigy of Narayan Chandel and raised slogans against him.
State Congress President Mohan Markam condemned the statements issued by the BJP leaders Raman Singh, and Arun Sau asked the LoP’s son to surrender. Earlier BJP spoksperson, Ajay Chandrakar in a state committee meeting in Ambikapur promised for a detailed investigation.
Two FIRs have been lodged against Palash Chandel on grounds of sexual assault on the pretext of marriage. The first FIR was filed at SC &ST act Police station and the second one at Raipur’s Mahila Thana. At present, he is booked under the Indian Penal Code’s Sections 367(2)(n) (repeatedly raping a woman) and 313 (causing miscarriage without consent). However it is speculated that more sections will be slapped on him such as he may be booked under SC and ST atrocity prevention act.
