Jagdalpur: An FIR has been filed against Congress candidate Kawasi Lakhma and Congress district president Sushil Maurya from the Bastar Lok Sabha constituency. Allegations suggest a breach of the Model Code of Conduct by both leaders. The incident stems from a complaint lodged with the Election Commission regarding their alleged contribution of cash to the committee organizing the Holika Dahan event in front of the Danteswari Temple in Jagdalpur on Sunday evening.

Subsequently, a case was registered against Kawasi Lakhma and Congress district president Sushil Maurya under various sections of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and the Indian Penal Code, including sections 123, 171B, 171G, 171E, and 188.

It’s noteworthy that since the incident of alleged cash contribution surfaced, their images started circulating widely on social media platforms. State Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap also raised concerns and urged the Election Commission to address the issue. On the late evening of March 25, an official from the administration, considering it as a case of inducement and violation of the Model Code of Conduct, filed an FIR against the Congress candidate Kawasi Lakhma and Congress district president Sushil Maurya at the Kotwali police station.

The situation has drawn significant attention, especially amidst ongoing election campaigns and heightened scrutiny of political activities. Both accused individuals are now facing legal proceedings, with authorities investigating the matter thoroughly. The incident underscores the importance of upholding electoral integrity and ethical standards in political conduct. As the legal process unfolds, it will be crucial to ensure transparency and accountability, maintaining the credibility of the electoral process.
