The normal functioning of the newly built State Hangar was inaugurated by the Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai today just outside the Swami Vivekananda Airport premises in the Mana Camp. The CM Sai took off on his official trip to Gujarat on the same hangar, after the formal inauguration ceremony, and the use of the hangar started.
The journey of the VVIPs seizing the state aircraft will now be easier, safer and improved with the opening of the operations of the State Hangar. This project should also help relieve congestion and avoid inconvenience that ordinary passengers experience in the VVIP flows at the main airport terminal.
It is interesting to note that building the State Hangar was done in 2012 by the Public Works Department (PWD) and it cost about ₹6.50 crore. The clearances of operations demanded by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) were however only received on October 31, 2025. After these approvals, the hangar is now fully functional to be used normally.
The newly constructed plant has been linked to the runway of the airport using Taxiway E, which allows easier and quicker movement of the VVIPs without interrupting the normal activities of the airport. Moreover, the hangar will be used as the location where the state government planes and helicopters will be maintained and stored. This will remove the necessity of relying on rented hangar space on the airport premise, cost of operation will be minimized and logistical efficiencies will be increased.
The ceremony was inaugurated by MLA Motilal Sahu, Mana Camp Nagar Panchayat Chairman Sanjay Yadav, Chief Minister Secretary Rahul Bhagat, Deputy Secretary Suraj Sahu and various other representing officials and high officials who considered the move as a step towards improve the aviation infrastructure in the state.
