Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Sai hinted at extending the deadline for rice procurement, with an order expected by evening. The current deadline for paddy procurement in the state, which started on November 1, is January 31. After this, farmers can sell their rice by linking until February 15. CM Sai signaled the extension during the inauguration of the BJP’s central office in Raipur today. If implemented, it would allow farmers in the state to sell rice at procurement centers until mid-February.
Last year, the state set a record by procuring 108,000 metric tons of rice. In the ongoing procurement season, the state has already purchased 134,000 metric tons of rice from farmers by January 29, amounting to a payment of Rs 28,104 crore. This year’s rice procurement in the state is approximately 270,000 metric tons higher compared to the same period last year. The state has been purchasing an average of around 300,000 metric tons of rice daily, and it is expected that the procurement quantity will surpass 1.4 million tons by January 31.
It’s noteworthy that this year, the state is ensuring the fulfillment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guarantee to farmers by procuring 21 quintals of rice per acre at the support price. So far, 2,368,810 farmers in the state have sold rice at the support price. The state has also maintained simultaneous custom milling along with rice procurement at the support price.
As of now, 1,018,518.1 tons of rice have been lifted through custom milling, with millers having lifted 910,013 tons against the issuance of 1,018,851.81 tons by the District Electoral Officer. The state is actively promoting the welfare of farmers through various procurement and support measures. The final decision on extending the rice procurement period is awaited, and it is expected to benefit farmers in Chhattisgarh.
