Raipur: The largest Ravana effigy in Chhattisgarh, standing at 110 feet, is all set in Raipur for Dussehra celebrations. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel conducted the symbolic burning of the effigy at the WRS Colony ground. This annual event attracts 20,000 to 25,000 spectators and is organized by the Sarvajanik Dussehra Utsav Samiti and the National Club. CM Baghel also tweeted regarding the event.
Due to election guidelines, the district administration will scrutinize the event. District Collector Dr. Sarveshwar Bhure confirmed that the government would not incur expenses for Dussehra celebrations in Raipur. The maximum expenditure for candidates in the upcoming election is capped at 40 lakhs INR.
In WRS Ground, effigies of Meghnath and Kumbhakarna accompany Ravana. Before the effigy burning, a 45-minute fireworks show lights up the sky, decorating it with colorful explosions. The ground is also adorned with various shapes of firecrackers, enhancing the overall spectacle. The fireworks display features creative arrangements, such as a series of “anar” (fountain fireworks), making it look like waterfalls of sparks. This year, a team of pyrotechnicians from West Bengal has been invited to manage the fireworks. They will use electronic triggers to ignite the fireworks, offering the audience a spectacular firework show.
Describing the program at WRS Ground, Radheshyam Vibhar, Secretary of the Dussehra Utsav Samiti, explained that the grand Dussehra event has been taking place here for 53 years. This year, a 110-foot-tall effigy of Ravana will be burned during the festivities. Extensive security measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of all participants and spectators. Barricades are being placed around the area, especially considering the proximity to the railway tracks. Additionally, arrangements for fire safety and police teams have been made.
