Raipur: World Tribal Day, also known as the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, is observed on August 9 each year to raise awareness and protect the rights of the world’s indigenous population. The day was first proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in December 1994, marking the day of the first meeting of the UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations of the Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in 1982.
World Tribal Day is a time to celebrate the cultures and achievements of indigenous people and to raise awareness of the challenges they face. It is also a time to commit to protecting their rights and to ensuring that they have a voice in the decisions that affect their lives.
“Congratulations and best wishes to all the tribal borthers and sisters including the people World Tribal Day the state. We all are fortunate that Chhattisgarh, being a tribal-dominated state, has inherited the priceless heritage of the ancient art and culture of the tribes”, tweeted CM Baghel.
Return of 4200 acres of tribal land in Lohandiguda, formation of a committee to review the cases of tribals lodged in jails, decision to improve the standard of living of tribals with the amount of District Mineral Trust, establishment of Staff Selection Board in Bastar and Surguja are some of the efforts done by Baghel government for the tribal society.
The government of Chhattisgarh under the leadership of CM Baghel is committed to preserve the ancient heritage and culture of the tribals and bring them into the mainstream.
Many indigenous peoples have been dispossessed of their land by governments or by private companies. This has led to poverty, displacement, and conflict. Tribals often face discrimination in education, employment, and healthcare. They may also be denied their cultural rights, such as the right to speak their own language or to practice their traditional customs. Indigenous peoples are often the victims of violence, including murder, rape, and torture. This violence is often committed by government forces or by private individuals.
