Raipur: A lower court in Raipur on Friday evening granted bail to CM Baghel’s father Nand Kumar Baghel. Advocate Gajendra Sonkar confirmed the news of the release. Nand Kumar Baghel was arrested earlier this week for allegedly making objectionable remarks against the Brahmin community.
Senior Baghel had however not sought bail and the court had remanded him in judicial custody for 15 days. Later his lawyer Gajendra Sonkar moved a bail application and sought an urgent hearing.
“After hearing arguments, Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Janak Kumar Hidko granted him bail today,” Mr Sonkar said on Friday evening. After spending three days in jail, Nand Kumar Baghel walked out of prison on Friday evening.
A case was lodged on September 4 at the DD Nagar police station on a complaint filed by the ‘Sarv Brahmin Samaj’. Nand Kumar Baghel was charged under the Indian Penal Code section 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups).
