Raipur: Bhupesh Baghel, the chief minister of Chhattisgarh, has applauded the Supreme Court’s recent decision to postpone the High Court’s judgment concerning the state’s reservation policy. The ruling relieves the state administration, which has received criticism for its reservation policy.
After the Chhattisgarh High Court determined that the state’s reservation policy was unconstitutional in the past, the controversy developed. The High Court ordered the state government to take the necessary action to change the policy and guarantee that it complied with the Constitution.
The state government filed an appeal with the Supreme Court against the High Court’s decision, claiming that the reservation policy was intended to provide social justice to marginalized populations. According to the government, the procedure was required to address past prejudice and the social and economic injustices these groups had to deal with.
The state administration has been urged to submit a response within six weeks after the Supreme Court requested the High Court to postpone its ruling. Additionally, the court has permitted the state government to continue its reservation policy in the interim.
Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister, Bhupesh Baghel, praised the verdict as a triumph for social justice. He has stated again that the reservation policy is intended to strengthen the state’s marginalized populations and ensure their socioeconomic advancement.
The state administration, criticized for its reservation policy, has found comfort in the Supreme Court’s ruling. The state’s policy has generated controversy, with some organizations claiming it is unfair and goes against the meritocracy ideals. According to the state administration, the policy is intended to remedy the past injustices experienced by marginalized populations and guarantee their fair representation in public employment and educational settings.
