Raipur: As a part of the preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, CM Baghel is scheduled to depart to Delhi on Thursday night at 8pm. Landing at Delhi at 10:00pm, CM Chhattisgarh would stay at the Chhattisgarh Sadan overnight.
Baghel who is charged as the party’s senior observer for the elections is determined to attend a strategic meeting of the party chaired by Sonai Gandhi. Many senior Congress leaders including Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, KC Venugopal, PL Punia, RPN Singh are speculated to attend this meeting. The panel is speculated to discuss pre-poll alliances during the meeting.
Earlier, the party had contested the elections in alliance with the Samajwadi Party, in which they had to face defeat.
Earlier, in October CM Baghel had visited the poll bound state four times. His visit received huge criticism after the Lakhimpur Violence in the state. To promote its stigma in the battle field, the party has held Pratigya Yatras in several areas of the state.
The Central Election Committee of the Congress chaired by party chief Sonia Gandhi on 23rd October chaired a meeting zeroing on few candidates of the party for the upcoming polls. However, no clarity was given on the selectes individuals. Significantly, the party has announced to reserve 40 per cent seats for women candidates in the assembly polls this time.
On the contrary the centre at it recent executive meeting, took a jibe at the Congress by stating that his party is not “run by a family but by a culture of public welfare”. Days earlier it announced to coalesce with seven smaller parties to lead the polls.
