Raipur: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is on a visit to Bastar today, where he is holding election rallies in Faraspal and Bhanupratappur. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel also participated in these rallies.
Prior to his departure for Bastar, Chief Minister Baghel had a media interaction at Raipur Airport. During this interaction, the Chief Minister made a significant statement regarding the NOTA (None of the Above) option in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). He expressed the view that the Election Commission should consider the NOTA option carefully, as many times, NOTA receives more votes than some candidates. This, he believes, affects the election results. Therefore, he suggested that the EVMs should not include the NOTA option.
The NOTA option on EVMs allows voters to reject all candidates contesting in their constituency, and it has been a topic of debate and discussion in Indian elections. Some argue that NOTA provides an outlet for expressing dissatisfaction with the available choices, while others like Chief Minister Baghel believe it may influence the final outcome in unforeseen ways.
Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Bastar holds significance as it is part of his effort to campaign for the upcoming state elections. The Congress is actively preparing for the polls and is conducting public meetings and rallies to garner support. The inclusion of key leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel in these rallies underscores the importance of these elections in Chhattisgarh.
As the election season unfolds, political statements and strategies are likely to play a pivotal role in shaping the discourse and influencing voter opinions. The question of the NOTA option’s impact on election results is one such element that will likely be discussed in the lead-up to the elections.
