Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government launched a new housing scheme for the rural poor, in a bid to counter criticism that it has not done enough to provide affordable housing.

The scheme, called Gramin Awas Nyay Yojana, will provide financial assistance of up to Rs. 2 lakhs to eligible beneficiaries to build their own houses. The state government will also provide free technical assistance to beneficiaries.

The scheme was launched by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister T.S. Singh Deo. Baghel said that the scheme was a “historic” step towards providing a roof over the head of every poor person in the state.

The launch of the scheme comes at a time when the Chhattisgarh government is facing criticism for its handling of the housing sector. In recent months, there have been reports of delays in the construction of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), the Centre’s flagship rural housing scheme.

The state government has also been criticized for its failure to provide matching grants to PMAY beneficiaries. Under PMAY, the Centre provides a grant of Rs. 1.2 lakh to beneficiaries, while the state government is supposed to provide a matching grant of Rs. 90,000. However, the state government has not been able to provide the matching grants in many cases.

The launch of Gramin Awas Nyay Yojana is seen as an attempt by the Chhattisgarh government to address these criticisms. The scheme is being funded entirely by the state government, and it is expected to benefit over 2 lakh families.

The scheme has been welcomed by beneficiaries and activists. They say that the scheme will provide a much-needed boost to the rural housing sector in Chhattisgarh.

However, some experts have raised concerns about the scheme’s implementation. They say that the state government needs to ensure that the scheme is implemented effectively and that the benefits reach the intended beneficiaries.

Only time will tell whether the Gramin Awas Nyay Yojana will be a success. However, the scheme is a step in the right direction and it could help to address the housing crisis in Chhattisgarh.

In addition to the Gramin Awas Nyay Yojana, the Chhattisgarh government has also launched a number of other housing schemes in recent years. Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana (Urban) has been launches as a scheme to provide financial assistance to eligible beneficiaries to build their own houses in urban areas. Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana (Rural); a scheme provides financial assistance to eligible beneficiaries to build their own houses in rural areas, and Rajiv Gandhi Awas Yojana; a scheme provides financial assistance to the homeless to build their own houses were also launched

These schemes have helped to improve the housing conditions of millions of people in Chhattisgarh. However, there is still a long way to go before the state achieves universal housing.
