Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel recently addressed the situation where he mentioned receiving a significant gift that was crucial for the state of Chhattisgarh. He expressed concern that political pressure was being exerted, possibly to influence the democratic process.
Baghel emphasized the importance of fair elections in a democracy and stated that all political parties should present their ideologies to the citizens. However, he raised concerns about the fairness of these elections due to alleged threats faced by officials, authorities, businessmen, political leaders, workers, legislators, and individuals in official positions. He noted that such threats were not limited to Chhattisgarh but were occurring in other states as well, citing Maharashtra as an example where governments changed without elections.
The Chief Minister also touched upon the topic of corruption eradication, mentioning that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had emphasized this goal. However, he observed a trend where individuals from various states were joining the BJP, possibly indicating a consolidation of political power.
Baghel highlighted the challenges faced by members of the Congress party, such as roadblocks preventing them from accessing their party office during ED notices to senior leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. He noted that these incidents were indicative of the current political climate, where disagreements could lead to adverse consequences.
Drawing attention to past events, Baghel recalled the tragic incidents involving prominent leaders like Vidya Charan Shukla, Mahendra Karma, and Nand Kumar Patel during the BJP’s previous tenure in Chhattisgarh. He expressed concern that such incidents might recur, emphasizing the unpredictability of the situation and the possibility of future raids or actions against political leaders.
