Raipur: At least 17 tribal children fallen ill after consuming mid-day meal at an Aanganwadi centre in Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh. The kids complained of abdomen pain and diarrhea and were rushed to hospital. Few of them had also fainted. Officials said that the kids have fallen ill after eating sweets at a social gathering in village.
The officer said that the same ready to eat food was served in many villages with same quality and there was no complaint reported anywhere. The children belong to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group Pahadi Korwa community and are suffering from food poisoning, officials said.
They were admitted at government hospital and their condition was stated to be stable. Jashpur collector Ritesh Agrawal told the media that it’s a matter of food poisoning and the angle of village feast as well as ready to eat food was being investigated. The details will be surfaced soon. The samples of the food were collected and sent to lab.
However, the kids are being monitored and their treatment is being ensured. It is also being probed if all the children had consumed village feast or the Aanganwadi food. Also, the source of sweets at village gathering was being found out. The incident comes a day after a minor girl died and around 25 children were taken ill after consuming pani puri in Bilaspur.
